Candid Street Photography
Candid Photography, also known as documentary or street photography, is the act of making photographs of strangers in public. This genre of photography, depending on the photographer and the subject of the photographs, can either make people in the photos or viewers of the photos feel varying degrees of uncomfortableness. Many times, candid street photography may be considered historical documentation of a certain time and place. As the internet, cameras and languages have evolved, the meaning of street photography has .changed to include photographs of anything made while the photographer is in public, including inanimate objects and landscapes. While I have a strong opinion on this, we can all argue the semantics but I feel that is a waste of time and energy. The photographs you see here are inspired by the era of street photography where the photographer walks in public and consciously makes candid photographs of people. When I see a moment, a movement or body language I connect with, it is in that split second where there’s an impulse to make a photo..
These photographs are just a small sample from my archives of candid street photography I have been making in Rochester. If you would like to discuss these photos or street photography in general, feel free to contact me via the link in the upper right hand corner.
